New carving project

I have not had the chance to carve wood for several years now, so my next sculpture should be refreshing. Once I get enough poplar stockpiled, the 5 foot tall tooth with ball-and-claw feet will come to life. At this point I plan on finishing it with white appliance paint.

Complicated Sand Mold

I purchased an old foundry pattern while living in Chicago and decided that I wanted to bring it back to life. The wooden gear pattern was originally designed for green sand molds, making it difficult to use the intended part lines with resin bonded sand. In the end, the 18 part mold yielded a perfect casting. At some point the iron casting will be integraded into one of my sculptures.
