The Power Hammer Continues

Now that I’m in the middle of a short winter break, its time to rally and finish the power hammer.

Keep in mind I’m building this machine so that it can be taken apart and moved by a crew of 2-4 ambitious people. Fabricating the hundreds of joints is taking longer than I expected, but it’s still a fun project.

Here’s what the hammer looked like before it was shifted to the back burner:

I finally got back to working on the mechanical power hammer again. I have the central I-beam that holds it together, now the only thing holding me back is my lack of spare time….

Power Hammer Construction

I am in the middle of constructing a mechanical power hammer to make forging work more practical. The 100 pound ram striking 3-5 times per second is much more efficient than smithing by hand, which provides the opportunity to work with larger pieces of material.
